Unlocking the benefits of using eConsult in Primary Care
Hello everyone, my name is Wendy Lang and I’m a Change Management and Adoption Lead at Amplify Care. Today we’re resharing some insights I provided during last year’s Digital Health Week around the benefits of eConsult.
I have experience working in the healthcare system as a Registered Nurse, and I’ve personally witnessed the struggles clinicians and patients face with long wait times to receive specialist care. No one expects a primary care physician to be an expert in every area of medicine. That’s why they refer their patients to specialists, when necessary.
However, there are so many cases when a patient’s medical issue could be addressed through a straightforward course of action. In these cases, patients don’t necessarily need to wait months to see the specialist. Their primary care physician can pose a question to the appropriate specialist and receive a response directly, in days, or sometimes hours.
Now that my professional career has brought me to Amplify Care, I get to work directly with clinicians, onboarding them to eConsult. The pride I feel knowing that what I’m doing is making a difference to not only clinicians, but their patients is indescribable. I love the stories I hear about the impact eConsult is making in people’s lives. Every single one of us has been a patient at some point and I often find myself thinking about how I would want to receive care. This is what motivates me to continue to work to make eConsult available to every patient across the province.
