Co-design in Primary Care: creating solutions that address clinician needs

In the ever-evolving landscape of healthcare, technology is transforming the way clinicians interact with their patients and manage their workflows. But not all technological solutions are created equal. The reality is that just adding technology for the sake of it often creates more problems than it solves. This is why involving clinicians in the creation of digital health solutions is crucial to ensure that the tools we develop actually meet their needs and integrate seamlessly into their daily work.

At the heart of our approach to building impactful solutions is co-design — a collaborative process that allows clinicians to shape the tools they will use. This approach is fundamental to our Healthcare Experience and Advancement Lab (HEAL), where we work directly with healthcare professionals to design and test digital solutions that address their unique workflow challenges.

Co-Design: A Collaborative Approach to Solving Real Problems

The key to successful co-design is the involvement of clinicians at every stage of the process. It’s about ensuring that the solutions we create are not only innovative but practical and usable in real-world clinical settings. Technology can only be effective if it genuinely supports clinicians in their work, making their tasks easier and more efficient.

Currently, our teams at HEAL are working on prototyping a new idea that emerged from a Think Tank session with clinicians. Once the prototype is ready, we’ll bring it back to the same group for testing and refinement. This iterative approach ensures that the solutions we build are fine-tuned to meet the real needs of clinicians, rather than being designed in isolation by those who may not fully understand the day-to-day realities of patient care.

Why Co-Design Matters

By involving clinicians throughout the process, we ensure that the tools we develop are truly useful, addressing the pain points that exist within their daily workflows. It’s not about creating technology for technology’s sake; it’s about designing solutions that will make a meaningful difference in the way healthcare is delivered.

Get Involved

We invite clinicians and healthcare professionals who want to be part of shaping the future of healthcare technology to join us in the HEAL lab.
